( open ) holy water will not help you now
who: rey/kira + you
where: idk all over, man
when: there is one flashback-y prompt (2014), but mostly set NOW
warnings: talk of torture, violence... will update if need be
(( THEN -- REY, 2015 -- for Kylo ))
She just wants to go home.
But she's never had a home.
She's just a nobody, not special. Not like they think she is; not like she feels when the power surges deep in her veins and sparkles at her fingertips. The girl; barely in her eighteenth year - sits, head bowed and pulled knees to her chest. A whirlwind of emotions are present, fear. She's afraid... More afraid of herself than she is of the ones who shackled her .. and what she can do.
All she had tried to do was keep her head down, until she could find a way back - away from all of this. This talk of powers, of people who are special -- she's not. She can't be (if she was, why did her family leave her?)
Rey still wears her desert wraps, mild tans in the cold starkness of a cell that she's been left in for the time being. They've offered an out.. they could use someone like her. But she spat in the face of her guard, and here she is.
The power frightens her, confuses her. But she can use it (if not well), which is how one would find her out of the cell, wandering aimlessly around the base. Keeping to the shadows, avoiding, hiding.
Rey of Jakku, is good at remaining invisible. Or had been, otherwise she wouldn't be here but. Point. Taken.
But now... hearing footsteps, she throws out a hand to stop them in their tracks.
(( NOW - KIRA, 2020 - open (enforcement) ))
One wouldn't recognize Rey now -- all in black, cape and mask, a blood red double bladed saber at her side. She's even dropped the name Rey -- a ray of light she is not. Kira isn't here to make friends, moving with a lethal efficiency through a crowd. Closing her eyes behind the red visor of her mask, she stops.
Pick up the trail. Her instincts are not usually wrong. Not about this.
There.
Opening her eyes, the woman stalks forward, and pulls out her weapon, holding it out to her prey. "Surrender yourself." The voice, mildly accented is modulated by the mask.
Is it you she's trying to arrest? Or perhaps you want to try your luck against her...
( training )
There's never really any off duty time, here -- not with the sudden influx of arrivals, and if Kira is not working, she's training -- or meditating. Swooping into revolts and stopping break outs. But she doesn't complain about the extra work, and the tactics the other side uses fuels her fire. There's an unspoken anger brewing, and anyone who happens to step foot in the training room might have to duck -- as the punching bag, full of holes and semi caught fire from swings of a lightsaber, goes flying towards the wall
Halting and freezing in midair, with the flick of her hand, before falling to the floor with a thud.

THEN;
Or, he was. Rey is soft on her feet and talented at blending into the shadows, but she isn't making any effort to conceal her presence in the Force. The second time he feels something moving in the corridor ahead but can't detect the source, Kylo slows to a curious jog... just in time to find himself caught off-guard by the raw strength of will she throws into freezing him in place.
His eyes snap wide. He hasn't felt anything like this since—
Well. Himself.
training;
But this stopped being about right or wrong a long time ago. It's just the way things are, and Chloe never was the one who was good at breaking the rules.
She comes down to try her hand at the punching bags, although physicality still isn't her strongest suit. Which is probably why she should practice more. Still, she can't help the amused curve of her lips when she sees the punching bag in front of Kira slightly aflame before she drops it with a wave of her hand.
"Pretty sure that's cheating."
no subject
As it were, she registers his surprise (and feels her own surging in her chest because she'd barely expected it to work).
He doesn't look like someone sent to bring her back to her cell, but she's not going to take her chances as she bares her teeth at him. "I'm not going back there." She waves her hand again, trying to shove him aside.
no subject
The stuffing falls pathetically to the floor, but at least it's not on fire any long.
"I wasn't aware that there were rules, here."
no subject
Chloe drops her gym bag and fishes her hand wraps out of them, sitting down on a bench to start looping the fabric around her hands. It's sort of a robotic ritual now, and she doesn't really give much attention to it as she does.
"But if people followed them we'd be out of a job." She nods at the lightsaber. "What is that thing?"
no subject
Silently, she picks up the blade, igniting it -- two blades run parallel to one another, until with a snap and hiss, Kira is holding something closer to her quarter staff, double bladed and bright red. "Called a lightsaber. Weapon of choice for force wielders of our galaxy."
She gives it a half hearted twirl, before extinguishing the blades.
no subject
"Seems overkill." Sure, the Resistance is a problem, but Chloe still feels like there are better ways to handle those who need... reprogrammed. She carries a weapon of her own, but she doesn't love it. "Force wielders?"
no subject
"I'm not taking you back there," he offers, curiously. "Who are you?"
His brow furrows as he watches her, feeling her very existence rattling tenuously behind those wide eyes. She's afraid, so very afraid and so lost...
"...Do you know?"
no subject
A nod, and the Force flows through her outstretched hand as she raises it, and pulls her bag towards us. "The Force... is the energy that binds the universe together, that's what they called it. Those who can wield it, can manipulate it to their will. And it's more than just moving objects around."
no subject
"Rey. Just Rey. Who're you?" She parrots back. Just because he hasn't made a move to bring her back to her cell doesn't make him trustworthy. In fact, that made him less trustworthy, he could be luring her into a false sense of security. A lesson learned on Jakku that favors weren't always repaid with more kindness ...
Brimming with fear and distrust, hidden under a mask of defiance, she bristles at the young man. "You're gonna need to be more specific than that. I know lots of things."
no subject
His brow furrows. What is it, he can feel shivering through her anger? Not just a fear of this place, or even him. Something older. Something he recognises.
"You don't know what's happening to you. This... power."
no subject
It's confusing, that's what it all is. Her shoulders droop, and she has to ask.
"This power. What is it?"
no subject
Sometimes it's hard to tell since there are so many people wandering around with powers now, but when people talk about their powers like that, it's generally a clear sign that they existed before they ended up here.
no subject
Pushing her hair back, she nods at the other woman. "The name's Kira."
no subject
Chloe offers a nod in greeting, taking a seat on a bench so she can start fishing her boxing gloves out of her bag.
"How'd you learn how to get better at it?"
no subject
"I had help, actually. There is another where I'm from that had already mastered it better than me, and they were able to give me training."
no subject
Chloe moves towards the bag, examining it thoughtfully before she gets in a few punches.
"Sometimes I feel like I'm still learning to use mine. Some of them came more naturally than others."
no subject
"Some, perhaps. That's not a mark on skill or lack of it, some just take to it easier than others. Some abilities are more complicated than others." A half shrug. "What are yours, if you don't mind me asking?"
no subject
Chloe tilts her head, taking a break from the bag to turn her attention back to Kira.
"I'm a walking lie detector, so I'm sure you can imagine how useful I've been here. I also make people... vulnerable. Not just physically. They like, open up to me, I guess." She chews her bottom lip. "Still getting the hang of that one."
no subject
no subject
She nods, something of a smile on her face, too. It's kind of a serendipitous power - she was always good at making people open up to her back home. It just packs a little more of a punch here, these days.
"I haven't really figured out how to use it to my advantage too much. Or what I'd even use it for, most of the time."
