HELLO SUNSHINE

WHO: EVERYONE
WHERE: STARK TOWER/THE PORTER BUILDING
WHEN: Duration of the event
WHAT: ARRIVAL TO CAPE AND COWL 2020
WARNINGS: Violence and language likely
OOC NOTES: This is a starter log to help kick off the event. Feel free to use or post your own!

Stark Tower, home of the Porter located in Midtown on 9th Avenue and 52nd, hasn’t exactly gone to rot in the years since Metas stopped arriving. Rather, it has simply been absorbed into the sprawling complex of newer, more technologically advanced government buildings as Metahumans were put into their ‘proper’ place. Once a pinnacle of the City, the tower is now dwarfed by the massive government complexes besides it, now standing more as a tribute to a bygone era, a historical curiosity still cleaned but otherwise left alone except for the newest of recruits looking to see that which they’d only heard about. The once awe-inspiring, multi-story tall labs which contain the Porter are quiet, eerie. Empty. The building is connected to, but sits on the very side edge, of the mass of now primarily administrative buildings. The prisons and training post have moved to more strategic grounds. Only office workers and their normal security detail keep the old Tower and her Porter company, and both are happy to simply go about their endless days, ignoring one another.

CHARACTERS ARRIVING JANUARY 14TH

This arrangement breeds complacency. The first day, the workers simply believe it’s a computer glitch, some rat in the wires telling them the Porter is drawing power again. So the first wave of new Metas have a pretty easy go.

You arrive alone, or in a pair, or in a gaggle of others. The giant has the echo of once being impressive, but years of only weekly cleanings and a lack of human contact have left it feeling hollow. There’s no clear sign of what is happening for a moment. The first few of you may even be able to just quietly leave, walk right out onto the confusing City streets without anyone but a uniformed office clerk noticing.

After that, people start to notice. A handful of security shows up to investigate after the first hour to ask who you are, how you got in here, what the hell prank you’re trying to pull. Then an arrival is witnessed, and all hell starts to break out.

Now new Metas arrive to blaring alarms and guns at their faces, demanding you get on the floor with hands in the air. Maybe you fight free, maybe you’re taken away in power suppressing handcuffs to be ‘processed.’ Those with a quick wit or zeal for order may be able to talk their way into simply being brought the paperwork to sign on to join the government. Others will be transported to the reprogramming centers. But time works for both sides, and resistance members undercover in the office space have gotten the news too, ready to help smuggle the Metas that they can quietly out a side door with instructions on a safe house to run to.

It’s a very confusing day.

CHARACTERS ARRIVING AFTER THE 14TH

To the shock and awe of all, the Porter doesn’t stop. An unprecedented number of Metas are coming through, more at once than even the heyday of meta arrivals and freedom. And with that comes fear. The Tower is now fully secure, a small army of specially trained humans and government owned Metas prowling the halls, waiting for the next batch to arrive.

And arrive they do, again sometimes alone, sometimes in pairs. Many are quickly taken into custody, to be transported to the proper processing facility. Occasionally, undercover agents for the resistance are clever enough to smuggle new arrivals out. Rarely, a desperate group of Meta rebels will attack the outside of the building, granting enough time for new arrivals to simply run, sometimes still in handcuffs. How ever they leave the Tower, it’s clear this is a dangerous world these new arrivals have come into.

They're a bunch of no-good, despicable, dastardly--!

[She has to stop when she hears the tramp of running footsteps and holds up her hand to signal Adora. After they pass by, she lowers her voice.]

I don't know where you're from originally, but this is how it works on Earthie: metas are forced into their army. It's all cloak and knifie. Jack bootie, no goodie. [She scoots along the wall.] So we better hurry.

[...and more footsteps. this time they're definitely coming down this hallway. dammit, time to get out the LADLE.]

Right. You just lead the way.

[The Ladle? Oh no...

Adora moves to defend, drawing her sword and changing it to it's shield form, setting herself and the stolen rifle in a firing position. She's ready...]

...Guessing these guys aren't going to want to share cookies and milk, eh?
bestest_ladle: Eeevil smiley (Time to make good on a grudgie!)

[personal profile] bestest_ladle 2020-01-24 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I'll give them a cookie.

[Gesturing sharply with the ladle, Meeth summons her alchemy urn. She flips something round and bright yellow, about the size of a grapefruit, from its mouth and tosses it to Adora.]

Let's try this firstie. You lob this at 'em as hard as you can and I'll back it up with a trick of my ownie. [The soldiers are shouting at them, but Meeth ignores it. They're just trying to be loud and scary--they won't actually shoot a meta dead until they see no other choice.] Then we go to townie.

[her other reason to keep adora from just using the gun, which she isn't saying just now, is, well--Adora's young. She acts like a soldier, so maybe she's killed people before, but if they can get out of here without having to do that Meeth will take that opportunity.]

Okay...

[Confused, Adora shrugs and palms the clearly magical fruit. Or something.

And like it's a hot potato...or a grenade with the pin out...she lobs it right on at them, and covers her ears, expecting some sort of explosion...]

[When the magicite hits the ground, it flashes--once, twice, then it blinks rapidly. One of the soldiers swears and picks it up to throw it back, but he's left it too late. It bursts in his hand, lighting up the hall with brilliant yellow and white and the unmistakable ZISH of electricity.]

Hah! POWIE! [So saying, Meeth summons her urn and jumps right on top of it, hurtling towards the soldiers like a log roller. They're stunned, half-paralyzed by the lightning and unable to muster a real defense, and one of them goes ass-over-teakettle when Meeth barrels into him.] You get the other one, dearie!

Right!

[Shaking off her bewilderment at the very Madame Razz-like display of cookware CQC, Adora rushes forward. She shoulder-checks the other soldier, sending him clattering to the floor with a grunt. For good measure, she kicks him in the helmeted head, knocking him out like a light.]

Good work!

What...was that thing?
bestest_ladle: Looking quite pleased with herselfie (Me? Amazing? Yes indeedie!)

[personal profile] bestest_ladle 2020-01-30 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
A piece of magicite--Thunder, more precisely. [She's marking time still on her urn, and once assured that both soldiers are down for the count, she starts rolling forward again--it's much easier to keep pace with Adora this way.

It's a bit tricky navigating this building, but she's reasonably assured as they proceed.]
Now! We can say hello more civilly. I didn't get your namie.

[personal profile] swordsense 2020-01-30 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
I...see.

[She doesn't get it, but that's okay. She can just accept it though. Like so much stuff on Earth.]

I'm Adora. what's your name again?

[personal profile] bestest_ladle 2020-02-02 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Meeth Crym. [she takes another turn.] I'm with the undergroundie. Once I heard that the porter was pulling in people like you from outsidie again, I had to come and lend a handie.

[personal profile] swordsense 2020-02-02 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Okay...but...I was on Earth already? Just. Wait. The porter stopped working?

[Whoa that is news.]
bestest_ladle: You just made Meeth angry (Looking very grumpy)

[personal profile] bestest_ladle 2020-02-04 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
For yearsies. It's gotten worse and worse for metas since it happened--and everyone elsie, too. [She rolls ahead furiously, hooking her ladle around a pipe to make a sharp turn.] That's why I'm here! To give 'em a good poundie.

You wanna help outtie?
swordsense: <user name=malagraphic> (Sad)

[personal profile] swordsense 2020-02-04 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Always. I don't like bullies.

[Give her some direction Ladle Lady.]

[personal profile] bestest_ladle 2020-02-12 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Good. I knew you were my kind of girlie.

[Ah, here we go... a back staircase. this looks like it will take them down to street level. Meeth hops down from the urn and dismisses it in a poof of smoke once she opens the door. She lowers her voice.]

I'm not the only one fighting. We've got a little troupie that makes all sorts of trouble for these baddies. And you're obviously a tough cookie. You'll fit right in.

[WE WANT U]
