HELLO SUNSHINE
WHO: EVERYONE
WHERE: STARK TOWER/THE PORTER BUILDING
WHEN: Duration of the event
WHAT: ARRIVAL TO CAPE AND COWL 2020
WARNINGS: Violence and language likely
OOC NOTES: This is a starter log to help kick off the event. Feel free to use or post your own!
Stark Tower, home of the Porter located in Midtown on 9th Avenue and 52nd, hasn’t exactly gone to rot in the years since Metas stopped arriving. Rather, it has simply been absorbed into the sprawling complex of newer, more technologically advanced government buildings as Metahumans were put into their ‘proper’ place. Once a pinnacle of the City, the tower is now dwarfed by the massive government complexes besides it, now standing more as a tribute to a bygone era, a historical curiosity still cleaned but otherwise left alone except for the newest of recruits looking to see that which they’d only heard about. The once awe-inspiring, multi-story tall labs which contain the Porter are quiet, eerie. Empty. The building is connected to, but sits on the very side edge, of the mass of now primarily administrative buildings. The prisons and training post have moved to more strategic grounds. Only office workers and their normal security detail keep the old Tower and her Porter company, and both are happy to simply go about their endless days, ignoring one another.
CHARACTERS ARRIVING JANUARY 14TH
This arrangement breeds complacency. The first day, the workers simply believe it’s a computer glitch, some rat in the wires telling them the Porter is drawing power again. So the first wave of new Metas have a pretty easy go.
You arrive alone, or in a pair, or in a gaggle of others. The giant has the echo of once being impressive, but years of only weekly cleanings and a lack of human contact have left it feeling hollow. There’s no clear sign of what is happening for a moment. The first few of you may even be able to just quietly leave, walk right out onto the confusing City streets without anyone but a uniformed office clerk noticing.
After that, people start to notice. A handful of security shows up to investigate after the first hour to ask who you are, how you got in here, what the hell prank you’re trying to pull. Then an arrival is witnessed, and all hell starts to break out.
Now new Metas arrive to blaring alarms and guns at their faces, demanding you get on the floor with hands in the air. Maybe you fight free, maybe you’re taken away in power suppressing handcuffs to be ‘processed.’ Those with a quick wit or zeal for order may be able to talk their way into simply being brought the paperwork to sign on to join the government. Others will be transported to the reprogramming centers. But time works for both sides, and resistance members undercover in the office space have gotten the news too, ready to help smuggle the Metas that they can quietly out a side door with instructions on a safe house to run to.
It’s a very confusing day.
CHARACTERS ARRIVING AFTER THE 14TH
To the shock and awe of all, the Porter doesn’t stop. An unprecedented number of Metas are coming through, more at once than even the heyday of meta arrivals and freedom. And with that comes fear. The Tower is now fully secure, a small army of specially trained humans and government owned Metas prowling the halls, waiting for the next batch to arrive.
And arrive they do, again sometimes alone, sometimes in pairs. Many are quickly taken into custody, to be transported to the proper processing facility. Occasionally, undercover agents for the resistance are clever enough to smuggle new arrivals out. Rarely, a desperate group of Meta rebels will attack the outside of the building, granting enough time for new arrivals to simply run, sometimes still in handcuffs. How ever they leave the Tower, it’s clear this is a dangerous world these new arrivals have come into.

"And in time, you will come back to him." All would, and the dead waited patiently for them.
"This place will not hold you forever. The Porter took me once, long ago, and returned me to my fate." He tilts his head slightly. "Do you remember it?"
no subject
Finn would have remembered if someone as important to him as Lucien were here previously. How many times had he wished his spectral brother were here to give him advice and guide him.
no subject
"Perhaps you will, one day." He drew closer. "Now, we are here, and I will follow you as the Listener, no matter how far we wander from our Mother's call." He knew Finn could not hear her. Neither could he. But not even the warm, smothering weight of the mortal world could bring him to worry for that.
Once one had seen the Void, all the deepest worries of existence were swept away.
no subject
"They took him, Lucien." Finn's voice was tight. "They took my lover, tortured him, turned him to their side."
no subject
He took the Listener's hand, covering it with his own, still smiling faintly. "I cannot free you from that loss. That is not my purpose here. But I can help to guide you."
Just as before, it seemed Finn was alone. That did not matter. "Do they pose a threat to our family?"
no subject
"They might, yes."
no subject
And what little comfort his presence could provide, he would.
"Do they hunt us in the name of mortal law?"
no subject
"They do, yes. I'm sure they'd love to brainwash me, have me as their all powerful Dragonborn slave, but if they kill me, they'll claim it was in the name of mortal law."
no subject
"Then the brotherhood has faced their like before. We know how to kill precisely, to break their resolve."
His smile widened again. "Have you ever heard of the murder of Adamus Phillida?"
no subject
The way Finn heard it told, there was something poetic about it. Not unlike Finn getting his revenge on Commander Maro.
no subject
"Our most pernicious foe in Cyrodiil, over forty years. Our Listener-to-be ended him, and his remains were delivered to his successor as a warning. The Imperial Guard no longer troubled us." So many other trials followed for the living family, but they benefited greatly from that single death.
"The same can be done again."
no subject
Finn likes to think that he's come a long way and has learned a lot since he took his place as the Listener, but he'll always need the advice of his ancestor spirit.
no subject
Excellent. He released Finn's hand, gesturing to the world outside the window. "Then come, show me to where you have made yourself a sanctuary, and you can begin your planning."
no subject
He stuck to the shadows as he moved, leading Lucien across town until they got to a house that looked like it had been abandoned for years. Rather than use the boarded up front door, Finn hopped the fence and used the basement door in the back.
It wasn't much of a Sanctuary, but Finn made due with what he had, for it was stocked with food and other supplies.
